The FES camera takes images of stars in a one-third degree field of view around FUSE's line of sight. This field of view is about 70% of the apparent size of the moon as viewed from earth. A typical star image is distributed over a 5 × 5 pixel area on the CCD, which allows the FES software to accurately compute the location of the centre (centroid) of the star image.
La caméra FES prend des images d'étoiles dans un angle de champ d'un tiers de degré autour de la ligne de visée de FUSE. Cet angle correspond à environ 70% de la taille apparente de la Lune vue de la Terre. Une image type d'étoile est répartie sur une surface de 5 × 5 pixels sur le dispositif à couplage de charge, permettant ainsi au logiciel FES de calculer avec précision le centre (point médian) de l'image de l'étoile.
