Cycle 2 Information

FUSE was launched on 24 June 1999, with a nominal three-year mission lifetime expected after an initial checkout perdiod. Normal Science operations began 01 December 1999, and Cycle 2 is expected to begin about Dec. 1, 2000. In Cycle 2, roughly half of the available observing time is allotted to Guest Investigators (GIs) just selected and announced by NASA through the normal peer-review process. The GI program is coordinated by NASA Project Scientist Dr. George Sonneborn.

Phase 2 submissions for Cycle 2 are due in mid-November 2000. All of the details you need, including the Phase 2 Instructions

Future Cycle Information

Details about proposing for future cycles are available at the NASA/GSFC website http://fusewww.gsfc.nasa.gov/fuse/. The deadline for Cycle 3 proposals will be announced at the NASA/GSFC website.

The proposal process for Cycle 3 will be similar to that which was used for Cycles 1 and 2 and has been developed for other NASA missions including HST. This process requires electronic submission and processing. "Phase 1" of the process involves filling out a LaTeX (keyword-driven) template form. The purpose of Phase 1 is proposal selection only, and no budget information will be requested. Successful proposers should submit "Phase 2" inputs for use in actual scheduling of the observations with the satellite. Budget information for successful proposers will be requested by NASA directly after the Phase 1 selection process.

Any questions about the FUSE GI program, its policies, or its funding should be directed to NASA Project Scientist George Sonneborn at NASA/Goddard.
