FUSE Science and Data Workshop

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

20-22 March 2002

at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland USA

Dear Colleagues,

We are organizing the program for the upcoming FUSE Science and Data Workshop and hope that you will join us for this exciting meeting.

We are aiming to produce a program that is comprised mainly of scientific results, but we also expect to include discussions on various technical issues related to FUSE observations.

The workshop will be held in the Schafler Auditorium of the Bloomberg Building, which houses the Department of Physics and Astronomy on the JHU campus and is directly across the street from the Space Telescope Science Institute. The poster area will be immediately adjacent to the auditorium. The workshop will take place all day March 20th and 21st and will conclude around noon on Friday March 22nd.

We expect to collect all abstracts submitted by 19 February 2002 into an Abstract Book that will be distributed at the meeting. Please send your abstracts via email, in either plain text or LaTex format, to Hal Weaver (weaver@pha.jhu.edu) . Participants can present their results either orally or in poster form. Please indicate in your mail message whether you prefer an ORAL or a POSTER presentation. If ORAL , please choose between a 15 minute presentation (including 3 mins of discussion) or a 30 minute presentation (including 5 mins of discussion). Depending on the demand, the Scientific Organizing Committee may have to choose among those contributions suggested for oral presentations. Authors will be contacted by March 1st to confirm their presentation as either oral or poster.

If you would like to attend the meeting but do not wish to submit an abstract, please send email to Hal Weaver (weaver@pha.jhu.edu) . Even though we will have no formal registration and will not charge a registration fee, we need a reasonably accurate head count because there will be a reception the first evening of the meeting (March 20th).

Hotel and other local information can be found here.

Special room rates ($99/night) for the meeting are available at:

The Inn at The Colonnade
4 West University Parkway
Baltimore,MD 21218
Phone: 410-554-7592

which is a short walk from the Bloomberg Building. Please mention the "FUSE meeting at Johns Hopkins" when making the reservations to obtain the reduced rate. Only a limited number of rooms have been reserved at this rate, and those will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Further information on the meeting will be distributed to this mailing list after the program is finalized. Please feel free to distribute this message to any of your colleagues who may be interested in attending the meeting.

General information on FUSE can be obtained at the FUSE Science Center website at Johns Hopkins.

Information on the FUSE Guest Investigator program can be found on the FUSE website at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

We look forward to your participation in what should be an interesting and exciting meeting.

Sincerely,

George Sonneborn
Chair of the Scientific Organizing Committee
NASA FUSE Project Scientist
